How AI Speech-to-Text Works

AI speech-to-text converts spoken audio into written words using deep learning. The process starts with the audio signal, which is broken into short frames and transformed into spectrogram features — a visual representation of how sound energy is distributed across frequencies over time. These features are fed into a deep neural network acoustic model that has been trained on enormous amounts of paired speech and text. The network maps each stretch of sound into probabilities for phonemes or characters, capturing how words actually sound. A separate language model then steps in: it combines those sound-based predictions with language context — grammar, word order, and common phrasing — to decode the audio into coherent, natural sentences rather than isolated fragments. For multilingual transcription, the system relies on large-scale self-supervised pretraining, which lets one model automatically recognize which language is being spoken and switch between them without manual selection. The final output is clean, readable text plus timestamped SRT subtitles that stay synchronized with the original audio.

Who It's For

Online speech-to-text transcription is built for people who work with spoken content every day. Meeting notes: record a team call, upload the audio, and get a searchable written record of decisions, action items, and discussions without pausing to type. Interviews: journalists and researchers can transcribe long interview recordings in minutes and quote sources accurately. Video subtitles: creators upload their narration or dialogue and receive SRT subtitle files, ready to add captions that boost accessibility and reach. Podcasts: hosts and editors turn episodes into show notes and blog posts, making audio content findable by search engines. Lectures: students capture dense university talks and review them as text for studying. In every case there is no sign-up and nothing to install — upload, wait a few minutes, and download the transcript or subtitles.
