The core architecture is a U-shaped encoder-decoder: the encoder progressively downsamples the image, extracting edge, texture and object-level features at multiple scales, while the decoder gradually upsamples those features back to the original resolution so the model can make a fine-grained decision at each pixel. From this analysis the network generates a foreground mask — a map that marks exactly which pixels to keep — and refines the mask along complex boundaries such as hair strands, fur and product outlines. The final mask is applied to the original photo, the background pixels are removed, and the result is a clean cutout with a transparent background, delivered as a ready-to-download transparent PNG.
